News Bites: XC makes States!

Girls Cross Country has maintained their ability to bring success to the Spartan Cross Country Program, earning a place at states for the sixth year in a row.
The team had struggled with different injuries all season including sprained ankles, hip problems, and ankle stress fractures. At least half of the Varsity team faced injuries at one point in the season. Even with these extra challenges to overcome, the team was successfull at regionals.
“I was really motivated because it’s my last time to go to States, and the rest of the team is so young so they wanted that learning experience,” said senior and team captain Ana Suarez.
The young team only has one senior and many runners who are competing at the varsity cross country level for the first time.
With their 6th-place at Regionals, the girls’ team went on to place 8th at States.
“We were motivated because we wanted to run for each other,” said Suarez. “We’re like a family.”

Boys Cross Country has run their way to States for the first time in eight years.
The team placed 3rd at Regionals, and hoped to one up that with a 2nd place finish at Sates.
“Coach was very excited and proud of us for putting all the hard work in this season,” said junior Andrew Lackey. “We just went into the race with the right attitude.”
States has been the goal for the boy’s team all season, and they have worked towards it with extra Wednesday morning practices and garnering the right mental attitude.
“It was a relief that we made it [to states] because it was a lot of pressure since we were supposed to make it,” said senior Andrew Smith. “It’s been a long time coming and I’m proud of everyone.”
At States the boys’ hard work paid off when they achieved 2nd place and recieved a trophy and place on the podium.
“There aren’t really words to describe how incredibly proud I am of my team,” said senior Timothy Ward.
