Students and staff compete on the basketball court

The ninth annual Students vs. Staff basketball game didn’t take any unexpected turns. A score of 52-45 made staff the 2016 student vs. staff champions.
“I had a great time coaching the staff team. The game in general is a lot of fun, but coaching the winning team definitely made it more enjoyable,” said the staff team coach, Riley Welch.
The Spartan staff is known to win almost every year but having Delaney, the JV baseball coach and JV girls basketball coach was definitely the MVP of the staff team. Delaney splashed 3s and drove through to the basket. He was all over the court and kept his opponents wide awake and on their toes.
“I had a lot of fun, but it sucks we didn’t win. It’s my senior year so breaking the staffs’ winning streak would’ve been great,” said senior Justin Tall.
The students may not have won, but at least it was a good time for both teams. Not only was it overall a fun game, but the Spartans who attended the game had a fun time in the stands supporting their peers as well.
“A lot of people showed up for the game. The stands were pretty packed, but only on one side. I expected the staff to win again this year but I had a great time watching the game!” said junior Sydney Daley.
Even with squished seating and an expected loss, many Spartans still showed to cheer on the game and keep everyone hyped. But the crowd wasn’t the only group keeping the game alive, main commentator Peter Muskett and co-commentator Ben Skibicki played a big roll in keeping everyone laughing and upbeat.
Always cracking jokes kept the crowd interested in the game and laughing. The 2016 Student v. Staff game proved successful in all areas. The students are obviously prepared for next year’s game. The staff better watch out!
“I’m not worried about this year’s loss. Next year, staff better be ready for me,” said junior Jordan Hughes.
