Awards… awards everywhere

The show begins with Tina Fey heckling from the front row as she chomps on popcorn and sports 3-D sunglasses, all the while exchanging crude remarks with Neil Patrick Harris.

The 65th anniversary of the Emmys, an event dedicated to awarding TV shows and actors for their contributions to the entertainment world, got even funnier when Fey proceeded to crawl up the stage steps and announce award-winners.

Harris, who hosted the 2013 Emmy’s, kept the crowd of 6,000 people on its toes with his witty remarks and sly jabs at various actors and actresses. Emmys were awarded to various actors, half of whom most people viewing the show have never heard of, and T.V. shows, most of which viewers were not aware existed.

Among the top winners was “Modern Family,” a hilarious comedy focusing on the lives of three families who are anything but normal. Gay dads, trophy wives, college drop-outs, and genius child prodigies make the show worthy of all rewards it received on Sunday night.

“Breaking Bad” was also a big winner, pleasing its viewers with its intense plot about a man diagnosed with cancer who resorts to manufacturing meth to ensure that if he dies, his family will have a nest egg to live off of. While this plot sounds outlandish to some, viewers agree that it is gritty and convincing.

In addition to the many actors and actresses who received awards, notable tributes were given, remembering the lives of people in the entertainment industry who passed away in 2013. Perhaps the most memorable tribute was given in commemoration of Cory Monteith, a beloved cast member of “Glee,” who died in August at the age of 31.

Two of television’s favorite sisters, Zoey and Emily Deschanel, represented the roles they play on TV through their dresses. Zooey sported a huge blue bow that belonged on an elementary school teacher’s dress, which is, coincidentally, her television occupation in “New Girl.” Emily appeared as sharp and stern as ever, much like her harsh demeanor on “Bones.”

For many viewers, this was the one event in 2013 that they watched live on TV, and the commercial breaks were unbearable. Until the 2014 Emmys, we’ll be watching Netflix.
