Shows have America singing

Growing up in a generation full of people who believe that they are good enough to “make it big” has resulted in an outrageous number of talent TV shows.
American Idol, The Voice, The X-Factor and America’s Got Talent only cover the singing competitions that are on blast almost every night. There are plenty of dance or modeling talent shows that take over the TV guide as well. It is common for each individual person to have one or two that he or she watches and loves; then completely shuns all others on TV.
Although there are other popular competitions, the biggest rivalry is between “The Voice” and “American Idol.”
“American Idol:” It’s the longest running talent show on TV, airing in 2002, and one could argue that it is becoming less and less popular with its viewers. More people have begun watching “The Voice” claiming it is more exciting and doesn’t get old or repetitive. In response to these accusations the “American Idol” producers have been trying to shake up their approach to gain back some of their viewers.
The best thing about the newest season of “American Idol” is the addition of a new judge, Harry Connick Jr. He and fellow judge Keith Urban have an interesting chemistry and back and forth banter that will keep anyone entertained when the horrible singing at auditions gets boring.
Both shows seem to have similar judges as well. Going back to Randy Jackson’s time at “American Idol”; he and Cee Lo Green, a former judge on The Voice, sure seem to have a lot in common. There a few other match ups as well. For example both Keith Urban and Blake Shelton are successful country stars who have won over the hearts of teenage girls. One of the “The Voice”’s newest judges, Shakira, has the same beautiful, exotic appearance as J-Lo on Idol.
When it comes down to it, it’s all about whatever the viewer finds more entertaining. But there is one big difference between the two shows that really sticks out.
If you are an “Idol” fanatic you would know that the judges are looking for a ‘whole package’ performer. To make it on Idol you have to not only have the voice but also the look and general appearance that a super star should have.
Whereas on “The Voice” the judges cannot see the person auditioning until they want them on their team/ love their voice, which is a refresher from the stereotype that one must be pretty in pink to make it big in the music industry.
Take a side and be sure to keep up because you never know what superstar will emerge; maybe it will be you.
