Winter Soldier shoots to the top
Non-stop action and talented leads? Yes please.
After Marvel had such success with the first Captain America movie it was easy to get support for a second film. Captain America began the first movie as a scrawny, short boy from Brooklyn, named Steve Rogers, who undergoes a major transformation from zero to hero.
After going on an adventure to save the world in the midst of World War 2, Captain America spent 70 years in ice and woke up just in time to save the world again.
And to add to the stress of acclimating to a completely different century than what you grew up in; Captain America is called on again to take down the corrupt protective agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Now that you are up to speed with the happenings before The Winter Soldier we can discuss the ups and the downs of the movie.
My only complaint for this action packed film was all the action. Now just hear me out. I’m all for action filled movies but sometimes it can be taken too far. There was one scene that really sticks out to be extremely ridiculous in the action department.
A car is shot an ungodly number of times and practically bombed and yet it keeps on going. It was supposedly a new high tech car that had the defense system of a battle ship, but really? It was a tad absurd.
If that wasn’t enough of a story stretch there are several characters that seem to come back from the dead and a few not expected twists that keep you on your feet.
The cast of The Winter Solider was on point, all the way down to the cute nurse that lives down the hall from Steve. Chris Evans, the actor who plays Captain America, is absolutely perfect for the role.
He is ruggedly handsome but still has innocent boyish appeal, and everyone knows that Scarlett Johansson is drop dead gorgeous. All the actors fit their characters well and really resemble the original Marvel superhero comic book characters.
The Winter Soldier character himself brings back characters from the first movie and childhood friends who grew up with him in Brooklyn.
You get to see a different, more sensitive side of Steve throughout the film as he goes through the challenge of taking down a whole agency with only a few trusted friends on his side.
The Captain struggles with who to trust and if he is really doing the right thing. Between his inner demons and the reemergence of Hydra, Steve has more on his plate then he could have ever imagined.
The cliffhanger ending really leaves the franchises the opportunity for a third movie which I would definitely go see.
