New “Kardashian” series first impressions
When “Keeping up with the Kardashians” halted production, fans were devastated, but rejoiced when the Hulu original “The Kardashians” arrived with more bingeable material. In this new era comes the introduction of new drama and new people who parallel the old series. This show is great for those who need an escape from the troubles of their life and want to immerse themselves in the drama and luxury of the Kardashian family.
“The Kardashians” follows the lives of Kourtney, Kim, Khloé, Kendall, Kylie, and Kris as they pick up where they left off after ceasing production last year.
One of the many plot lines in this new show is Kim’s infamous sex tape and the now-resurfaced footage from it. In the first episode of “Keeping up With the Kardashians” (KUWTK), where her sex tape is also the main topic of discussion, Kim is visibly upset, but cracks jokes about the scandal. Conversly, in “The Kardashians,” after finding out about the alleged resurfaced footage from an advertisement on her son Saint’s Roblox game, she breaks down. This footage is an undeniable similarity between the two shows.
“It is a good omen,” said Khloé in the first episode.
Another exciting plot line in the new show is Kourtney’s loving relationship with Travis Barker after being back and forth with Scott Disick for so many years. However, drama between the three starts right away in episode one. Since Barker was at the family barbeque in the first episode, the family did not invite Scott, thinking it would be awkward to have Kourtney’s new boyfriend, now fiance, hanging out with her ex. Later in the episode, Disick vents his frustration about it to Khloé.
“I was excluded by the only family I had,” said Disick.
While it is understandable where Disick was coming from, Kourtney and Travis are madly in love and all over each other; the Kardashian clan is right in not believing Scott would be able to handle it. This shows another parallel between “The Kardashians” and “KUWTK,” since Travis and Kourtney are constantly showing PDA at family gatherings and Scott and Kourtney did the same in the first episode of KUWTK.
Continuing on with the events of the first episode of “The Kardashians,” Khloé is trying to have a healthy co-parenting relationship with Tristan Thompson while he wants to get back together with her. He keeps telling her to stop bringing up his past affairs as he has “changed,” although after the episode came out, it was revealed that he fathered a child with another woman while being with Khloé. It is interesting to see how Khloé tries to be mature for the sake of their child, even after the troubles Thompson put her through.
A difference in the new show is the clear absence of influential people such as Caitlyn Jenner, which is disappointing due to the strong relationship she had with the girls back in the first episode of KUWTK. However, it is understandable as her relationship with the Kardashian-Jenner clan is rocky now. Kendall Jenner is also gone with COVID.
“I think Kendall has the flu or something,” Kris says at the family barbeque in episode one.
The most noticeable thing that’s lacking in the new show is most of the loud boastfulness that made the Kardashians who they are. While they still have very bold personalities, they have matured so much that it leaves the feeling of something missing. This can be expected, though, with age and spending years under the scrutiny of the public.
If you are a fan of “Keeping up with the Kardashians,” actively follow the family on social media, or need a fun, drama-filled show, then “The Kardashians” is the show for you.
