Sunshine, beaches, freedom. That about sums up spring break.
The break is over and everyone must get back to dragging their feet from class to class. Even a month later, people are buzzing about their spring breaks.
For those that stayed home, nice weather and lazy days were enjoyable. Some stayed inside, but others ventured outdoors.
“[We] went on a bike ride,” said freshman Amy Young. “We saw a snake and freaked out.”
Others who stayed home went to sports practices or went with friends to the movies. Meanwhile, all thoughts of school were forgotten.
Many juniors, though, had their eye on the future and went on numerous college visits and tours.
Junior Alexandra Hoensoherd went on college visits down south with her parents and got an unpleasant surprise when she found herself caught in the storms that plagued North Carolina during the beginning of the break. She and her mom heard on the radio that a tornado was on the way.
“We were driving along, and [the radio] asked us to seek shelter,” said Hoensoherd.
Hoensoherd ended up unharmed, but it was an experience to remember this spring break by. Most college visits weren’t comparable to a scene in “Twister” like Hoensoherd’s, but were memorable all the same.
Another memorable experience came when junior Omar Elhiraika decided to go to the circus.
“It was Ringling Brothers…it was fascinating seeing the acrobatics,” said Elhiraika.
Whether at home or at the circus, most people made the most of their week off.
Sophomore Maddie Wittich was among those who had a truly unforgettable week. Wittich spent her spring break helping children in need outside of the US. She went to a hospital and to two different communities in the Dominican Republic.
“My family sponsors [through] Children International,” said Wittich. “My parents decided to go out of country and visit the people we help. It was so much fun.”
