Letters: Egypt’s future unclear

Dear Editor,

The Oracle is a very exciting and influential paper that everybody enjoys to read. It has always been a fair and neutral source  of news about the school, the county, and the world. Unfortunately, in the February 21 edition of The Oracle that was not the case.

In Nisreen Sumrean’s article,“Egypt’s revolution causes local impact,” I think the words were not chosen carefully. The article gave the readers the impression that the results of the revolution in Egypt and other countries in the Middle East will have a good impact.

Until this very moment no one knows if the impact of these revolutions will be positive or negative, especially in Egypt. There is a large probability that deeply conservative parties take the power and turn Egypt into another Afghanistan.

The Egyptian regime was a strong ally in the United States. Mubarak maintained peace in the Middle East and he tried to improve his country. It is true that there was a huge economic problem in Egypt and the Egyptian government did not deal with it in the best way, but we have to stop and think for a moment. Egypt is not a rich country and the population is very large, so it is normal that they will face economic problems.

I give my thanks and respect to the writers in The Oracle and to the writer of the article, but let’s not try and estimate the future. I hope that the students try to be neutral in articles that talk about the destiny of other nations. Let us try to write what we know, not what we think will happen. Not every shiny coin is made of gold and not every revolution is a sign of hope

Sincerely,

Anmar Nabeel Shoriz
