Shady’s back again…

The MMLP2 rockets to the top of Billboard charts

“Guess who’s back? Back again, Shady’s back, tell a friend”

The long wait is finally over for rap fans. Eminem’s newest album “Marshall Mathers LP 2” was released officially on November 5th, and after being leaked to the internet nearly a week earlier, was eagerly received by fans with open arms. The album is a sequel to the May 2000 release of the legendary “Marshall Mathers LP,” which sold more than million copies and was certified diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America in 2011. The songs on LP 2 tell the story of Eminem’s life and how he made it through multiple hardships as a young man.

One of his songs in particular, “Rap God,” is causing a stir. Eminem is raps the song at a pace that he calls ‘supersonic speed,’ rapping ninety seven words in fifteen seconds; giving him the average of 6.5 words per second. LP 2 made all sorts of history, including making Eminem the first artist since the Beatles to have four songs in the top twenty section of Billboard’s Hot 100 listings.

LP 2 was the number one album on the iTunes chart for a whole week in both the US and Canada, and was only pushed into second place by Lady Gaga’s ARTPOP.

After its reign at the top of international charts, LP2 landed a slot as number four on the list of top US albums for 2013. On Billboard 200, it ranked 16th for the year.

LP2 was a media success. That success may have come from the constant forms of promotion it had before its release.  It had tracks that were performed live at halftime for football games, and free song downloads with the preorder of the video game Call of Duty: Ghosts that were being released in the same time frame.  Along with getting the attention of potential consumers through these promotions, trailers for the album were released on YouTube on the Eminem VEVO channel for all of his fans. With the combination of fan anticipation and strong promotional campaigns, LP 2 reached its highest potential and was a record setting hit for fans old and new.
