Not your typical fashion show or award ceremony

Yet another award ceremony has dawned on Hollywood as 2013’s best actors, actresses, and TV shows, as well as the films that have only been out for a short time, were recognized for fulfilling their one job, entertaining us, at the Golden Globes.
It came as no surprise when Jennifer Lawrence, America’s latest sweetheart, won “Best Supporting Actress” for her part in “American Hustle.” But then again, when doesn’t she win something?
However, an actress who is still viewed as the soft-spoken, misplaced princess in the movie “Enchanted” by our generation, Amy Adams, was awarded “Best Actress in a Comedy” for “American Hustle.”
While her promiscuous role came as a surprise to many, including myself, she pulled it off nicely, though I’m still not sure the movie’s admission ticket was worth it.
The Golden Globe’s committee seemed to think differently, donning “American Hustle” the best comedy of the year. Additionally, a less advertised movie, “12 Years a Slave,” was a big winner, achieving recognition as the “Best Motion Picture Drama”.
But realistically, the awards are only a small part of the ceremony. Who wore what, who did what, and who was with who are what most of us were watching for.
Jacqueline Bisset gave a naughty speech that we all heard, much to the censor’s dismay, and was arguably “not in the right mindset” as she accepted her award for Best Supporting Actress, adding some laughter to the show at her expense.
No one wore anything too heinous, which was appreciated by viewers’ eyes everywhere.
Julia Roberts looked especially appropriate, combining classy and casual and pulling it off well. Olivia Wilde’s dress could have gone either way, gorgeous or horrendous, but it’s Olivia Wilde. All-over green sequins that should have made her look like a pregnant tree instead made her appear as a mermaid. Sofia Vergara looked about 20 years younger than her true age of 41 in a black ball gown and stunning azure blue necklace.
We do need to highlight something. When an award ceremony is in January, you really shouldn’t wear yellow if you’re pale. It’s just not a good look (*cough* Lena Dunham).
Sandra Bullock pulled off pastel nicely, and Zooey Deschanel looked classy and cute in her nude dress.
The witty best friends, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, made the evening an event of its own, keeping the crowd, and coach potatoes, on their toes as they mocked as many people as they possibly could. The 71st Golden Globes were surprisingly entertaining for “just another award show.”
