Awesome Con will be awesome

Take a deep breath and smell the sweet scent of convention season.
With the melting snow comes short shorts, springs sports and the DC Awesome Con. This convention is another celebration of video games, TV shows and comics of all kinds. It is being held in the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in down town DC from April 18 to April 20.
After the huge success of KatsuCon’s 20th anniversary convention, we can only expect great things from this year’s Awesome Con. This is the season of conventions, where we find on quickly following another, each trying to top the previous, a rivalry that always excites attendees.
One of the big name guests this year includes Jewel Staite, who played Kaylee Frye on the much beloved and missed TV show “Firefly.” Cary Elwes, notable for his role as Westley in “The Princess Bride,” will attend, along with Billie Piper, who played a companion on “Doctor Who.”
In addition to these wonderful actors, voice actress Veronica Taylor, the voice of Ash on “Pokémon,” will also be making an appearance at the convention. These are only some of the guest stars advertised on the conventions website.
On top of the squeal-worthy guest stars, DC Awesome Con will also be the place to buy all those comics that you worried you would have to wait months to be released. Conventions such as these let big name companies sell advanced copies of yet to be released comics and plenty of merch for advertising. Also, many online comics use these conventions to get the word out and drum up more readers. It ends up being a win-win for big and small companies as it is a chance to release new material and get an easy test reaction for when it is mass released.
Another great pastime to look forward to with any convention is the costumes. DC Awesome Con has a slight more name recognition than some of the other conventions and therefore attracts more people from all over the United States, which promises a wide variety of costumes to see. People-watching is one of the best parts of attending a con; nothing is a better afternoon than to find a comfy seat and just spend a few hours looking at costumes that range from obscure video games to prominent TV shows.
All in all, DC Awesome Con is shaping up to be another fun filled three day event. If you’ve never been to a con, just try a one day pass, go and see for yourself just how amazing these can be.
