What a time to be alive
December 1, 2015
“Jumpman, Jumpman, Jumpman, them boys up to somethin.”
Them boys, Drake and Future, really were up to something when they concocted their highly anticipated joint mix tape: “What a Time to be Alive.” Rumors about the mix tape were swirling all over Twitter, but no one knew if Drake: the 6 God, and Future: the leader of Freebandz were actually working on a project. Then, on September 20th, 2015, Drake and Future shocked the world by dropping what they thought was absolute fire. The mix tape was praised by celebrities like LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Kevin Hart. Others, however, were majorly disappointed with the project. Among those who were let down, junior Marcus Nguyen expected so much more from the two red hot artists.
“It was not fire except for ‘Jumpman,’ ‘Scholarships,’ and ‘Diamonds Dancing,’” Nguyen said, “It wasn’t just bars. It was a catfish mix tape.”
Others, along with Nguyen, were significantly let down when they heard the project. Senior Andrew Storr was in agreement with Nguyen, saying that Drake and Future could have come out with straight bars (bars are very good lyrics for the people who are Hip-Hop challenged). Storr was among the millions of fans who were excited for the project, but once he heard it, he did not like the mix tape at all except for two songs: “Jumpman” and “Big Rings.”
“I was looking forward to [the mix tape] up until it came out” Storr said. “Only a few songs are aux cord worthy, but the mix tap as a whole is not.”
Not everyone was disappointed with the effort put into the hyped up mix tape. Freshman Jackson Morrow, a long fan of Drake and a recent fan of Future, was elated with the project.
“That [mix tape] was fire” Morrow said. “‘Diamonds Dancing’ was my favorite.”
Along with Morrow, senior Lewis Djonkam thought the mix tape had bars, upon bars, upon bars, upon bars. Djonkam is a huge fan of Drake and Future, and could not get enough of the project, unlike his fellow classmates.
“What a Time to be Alive” is extremely popular among WS students and the world alike.
“Greatness, just greatness,” Djonkam said about the mix tape. “Everything about it is great.”
