Acting, producing, wrestling, football, and being sexy—what can’t The Rock do?
Dwayne Johnson, also known as “The Rock,” was recently voted as People Magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” His infamous muscles and million-dollar smirk has given him a place on the front page of one of America’s most read magazines.
“The Rock” is from Miami, Florida; he played college football for the University of Miami, leading them to a National Championship in 1991. While many people do not know him for his football career, it did launch him into his well knows wrestling career, where he got his ring name, “The Rock.” Towering at 6’5 and 260 pounds, “The Rock” had a very successful WWE career.
“He is built like a rock,” said junior Lauren Novak, who’s impressed by the physique of Johnson.
He has 17 championships under his belt, and 10 of them were world championships. “The Rock” shows up every once in a while for a charity or fun match because he even still has a part-time contract with WWE. His wrestling personality, and arguably his looks landed him several small movie roles.
“He could have gone in a completely different direction, but he became an actor and that’s respectable,” said junior Kaela Peters.
He often played the tough guy or an athlete. Johnson has been known to reinvigorate film franchises, such as “Fast and Furious,” where he played the character of Luke Hobbs. Some continue to watch the franchise because they are fans, while others watch it just for The Rock’s appearance. This could explain his wild popularity. While his credits are astounding, people seems to disagree with the opinion of him being sexy. After all, he does make it in the top 10 oldest men to be People’s “Sexiest Man Alive.” People has an audience ranging from young teenage girls to middle aged women. “The Rock” seemed to be voted in by the latter group, but it seems like younger girls want nothing to do with Johnson.
“Honestly he’s not even that attractive; he’s practically a fossil,” said junior Irelyn Sheehan.
Most WS students agree. In a recent Twitter poll, 60 percent of voters said that The Rock was “not hot.” If People had a “Cutest Man Alive,” high schoolers and young adults might drop names like Justin Bieber, Zayn Malik, Zac Efron, Dave Franco, Drake, or Channing Tatum. Basically, young girls could drop 50 names before they get to “The Rock,” which makes you wonder if he is still a relevant celebrity, or if People is a relevant magazine. Although, “The Rock” pops up in a new movie almost every month. Just look at the success of the new Disney movie, “Moana.” People find his personality charming and his body quite impressive. However, people seem to squirm when associating The Rock with the word “sexy.”
“Just ew, he is way too far out of my age range. He could be my dad or something,” said freshman Maya Betts.
