Mom and Pop serves great coffee non-stop
Merrifield’s Mosaic District showcases another place to meet and greet
May 31, 2017
Mom and Pop is a small cafe in the heart of the Mosaic District, specifically 2909 District Ave, Fairfax, Virginia. Though it does seem a little out of the way to get there from Springfield, it really is worth the 20 minute drive.
The atmosphere around the cafe is lively, bright, and provides its visitors with a variety of stores to shop at. Some of the shopping surrounding the cafe includes Kendra Scott, Alex and Ani, Lulu Lemon, South Moon Under, and many more all within a short walking distance of each other.
The cafe itself is quaint and quite small with great energy inside. Right when you walk in you are greeted by warmth and the strong aroma of artisan coffee. The cafe has windows on one entire side of the building which lets light in and makes it feel more open, not so small and enclosed. The employees are friendly and outgoing as well as the cafe’s other patrons. A majority of the cafe’s customers are regulars who go almost every day so getting a seat inside in the mornings can be challenging.
The quality of the small cafe’s food and drinks are not only shown through presentation but also taste. Their coffee is twenty times better than Starbucks and though it is more expensive, you get what you pay for. The coffee is very creamy and doesn’t taste burnt compared to some coffee’s I’ve had at Starbucks. Another plus side is that they all come with the cute little cream designs on the top of the coffee.
Their food is all organic and locally grown from small farms in the area, so by eating at Mom and Pop’s you are not only supporting the business itself, but also small family farms as well. Mom and Pop’s food is delicious and there is no insanely long wait for your food either. I had a pesto and egg croissant which was one of the best croissants I’ve ever had. It was light and flaky which tasted great with the heavier egg white and pesto crème inside. They also offer other foods such as muffins, pastries, coffee cakes, breakfast sandwiches and more.
This is a great cafe to visit on any day that you are looking to have a stress free day off consisting of brunch and shopping with some friends. I 10 out of 10 recommend Mom and Pop’s.
