Summer. The season of sun, sand, vacations, and… concerts. Whether it’s at Jiffy Lube or the Capital One Arena (previously known as the Verizon Center), people gather together to celebrate artists and bond over music.
Jiffy Lube Live is an outdoor amphitheater in Bristow, Virginia.
During the summer, it’s a popular place for concerts. Many people go and sit on the lawn at Jiffy Lube so they have more space to dance and meet new people.
“I like Jiffy Lube because it’s open and outside. It creates a better concert atmosphere,” said senior Sean Kett, who saw J. Cole at Jiffy Lube a few summers ago.
Jiffy Lube Live is also home to all of the country concerts during the summer, such as Jason Aldean, Sam Hunt, Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan and more, whereas the Capital One Arena hosts fewer of these concerts.
“At Jason Aldean, I met some people who taught me how to ‘country’ dance. They were teaching me how to two-step and other dance moves that people don’t usually do,” said senior Alana Goodwin.
The Capital One Arena is very different compared with Jiffy Lube Live. For one, it’s inside and everybody has a seat rather than standing on a lawn. Also, the Capital One Arena hosts sporting events as well as just concerts. Unlike Jiffy Lube Live, there are concerts year-round at the Capital One Arena. Because it’s inside, the concerts don’t have to accommodate the weather.
“I like how the Capital One Arena hosts more than just concerts, you can go and watch games of many different sports. Also, the big TV screen in the middle makes things easier to see,” said sophomore Joey Chang, who saw Kendrick Lamar and many Wizards games at the Capital One Arena.“If Kendrick came to Jiffy Lube instead of the Capital One Arena, it would have been more fun because I like standing with friends, dancing on a lawn than sitting in a row of chairs.”
Most everyone can agree though that no matter what venue someone attends, they are bound to have a good time. If someone likes the artist who’s performing, goes with a fun group of friends or family, and likes listening to live music, then it’s almost impossible to not have a good time.
“I always end up having a good time at concerts because I’m listening to my favorite songs live,” said Kett.V
