Speaking her way to the top

As senior class president, National Honor Society president, Forensics captain, a member of French Honor society, and one of two girls selected from Virginia Girls State to attend Girls Nation, senior Olivia Adubofour has a lot on her plate. While the average student is stressing about first quarter grades and maybe a sport, Adubofour’s various leadership roles prove plenty to take on as well.

Adubofour argues, however, that the time-consuming activities keep her in line.

“Having a lot of different things to do keeps me organized so that I can’t slack off,” said Adubofour.

Debate meetings and competitions, class meetings, and honor society meetings consume most of her time after 2:10 on school days.

“I get home and immediately start homework,” said Adubofour.

With tough Advanced Placement classes that require grueling effort and time during senior year, it’s hard to manage time and figure out how to succeed academically even without other extracurricular activities. Impressively, Adubofour has learned how to get all of her work done with style.

“It’s all about keeping the balance,” said Adubofour.

For most students, academics are wholly separate from enjoyable activities like hanging out with friends. Luckily, Adubofour uses her excellent social skills to make friends wherever her activities take her.

“My fun time is integrated with the things I do,” said Adubofour.

She speaks of her Forensics teammates very highly, and, although they debate often, they are a tight knit bunch. Adubofour has also known the class of 2013 officers since their coming together in 2009, and is known throughout the school for her kindness and leadership. As a leading role in Virginia Girls State, Adubofour will become a “senator” who will meet for a weeklong immersive learning experience in Washington, D.C.

Adubofour’s activities are not only notable because of her participation in all of them, but also because her positions and endless effort she puts into everything she does is inspiring. Not only are her roles important to her, but they are gratifying to her because of her interests.

“The leadership roles I do are fun because I like working with people and it’s enjoyable for me,” said Adubofour.
