Pinterest provides ‘pinspiration’ for the crafty

Waking up in the morning for school poses a regular dilemma. What to wear?
It’s tempting to reach for the same old thing, especially as the school year wears on. With the dreary months of winter come the same, colorless combinations.
Some WS students; however, have discovered a light in the dull path that is weekday mornings:
Pinterest.
Pinterest is an online virtual pinboard that allows users to browse pictures in their favorite categories and “repin” them to their own boards.
Pinterest is visible all over the place, with many websites having an embedded link to create a pin without leaving the page as well as a pinning bookmark for quick and easy access and original pins.
Users can pin anything from future wedding plans and outfits to how to create a boyfriend out of Popsicle sticks.
Junior Kathleen Obregón, a pinner for about five months, is a fan of Pinterest and all it has to offer.
“I like it, and one time I bought these really cute shoes [on Pinterest] that I liked,” she said.
It can also provide “pinspiration” for future outfit combinations. Users turn to the website to admire and sometimes emulate what they see other pinners pinning.
Sophomore Kristin Pitcher, an avid pinner, joined the site about a year ago.
“I see good fashion, clothing, and style,” she said.
Students like to be up-to-date on trends, but executing them can sometimes be a challenge. Pinterest is flooded with pictures of people wearing classic or modern styles like knee high riding boots or flowy scarves for examples of how to pair outfits.
Fashion blogs like “Kendi Everyday” and “The Daybook” regularly post daily outfits and lifestyle posts for interested users.
“I use it for a lot of style,” said Pitcher, “one time I found boots [to pair] with leggings and socks with a vest.”
Pitcher’s most frequented board is the “My Style” page with over 1,000 pins. Pitcher says that the website is like online “window shopping” for clothes and accessories and other ideas that she might like.
“I find the cutest stuff… and unexpected ideas,” she said.
Whether looking for a way to style an outfit or a way to pass time, Pinterest is there to help. If there’s time to spend, the site can provide an outlet for fashionistas and craftmasters alike.
“I use it for a lot of funny stuff,” said junior Reilly Brown, “it’s actually the best.”
