4 years of hard work pays off

Valor, pride and freedom. These are some of the values that have driven WS’s finest to make the decision to protect and serve our country.
In the midst of the college selection process, a prestigious group of students have decided to spend the next chapter of their lives at military schools such as West Point, the Naval Academy and the Coast Guard Academy.
“I think that I applied to military school because I’ve always grown up in the military and I knew that I wanted to serve my country,” said senior Molly Prins, who will be playing for the Women’s team while attending West Point.
The families of the future cadets are facing the realization that their children are heading off to not just college, but combat.
“My family wanted to make sure that I wasn’t going because of my dad and that they didn’t pressure me into it. My father and my family fully support it because it is my own decision,” said Prins.
The transition into a new institution for students along with the boot camp that is required in the summer marks the beginning of  a new period of their lives.
“I think it’s going to be difficult, but it’s going to be worth it, and it’s a big transition from our public school system,” said senior Jake Moffatt, who will also be attending West Point this fall.
The future cadets have a shorter summer than from the rest of their peers, their summer will come to an end early to head to the academy to partake in the compulsory and rigorous boot camp.
“To prepare for boot camp, I am mostly pushing myself a lot harder in sports and I am just trying to prepare myself physically and mentally, definitely some pushup and sit-up runs too” said Moffatt.
With the long application process, students will be relieved to receive their acceptance after fulfilling the plethora of requirements.
“I think that there is going to be a sense of satisfaction about getting accepted after the 5 month ordeal of the whole application process,” said Moffatt.
The pride the WS students are experiencing is undeniable.
“I’m looking forward to everything!” said Prins, “I’m so excited because I am looking forward to the bonds that I will have with others, because no other college has close bonds like West Point does.”
