Baseball’s back, baby
With baseball season well under way the team is ready to step up to the plate and continue with the progress they achieved in previous years.
Spartan Varsity baseball is looking to repeat their victorious season last year, winning conferences and making it to the regional semi-finals. With the performance they put on in the 2014 season they have set the bar high for the years to come.
“We have to defend our title,” said junior Matt Stalling, “It means a lot [be sucessful] because this is a tough conference to win.”
To ensure a prosperous season Spartan baseball has been preparing practically since the 2014 season ended; adding extra summer practices and weight lifting sessions to guarantee that all players are preforming at their peaks.
“It’s about pride, practicing and working hard and working hard every day. We don’t have a lot of experience but we have a lot of good players,” said senior Zach Shugart.
With not as many seniors on the team as they have had in past years, seniors are tasked with being leaders providing underclassmen with the knowledge it takes to be effective in a high school baseball career.
“For me personally being a senior [is] different. You have a lot of responsibility and I know [younger players] are looking towards [the seniors] for leadership,” said senior Adham Nabhan.
With so few players with experience on varsity, the team has been forced to start players who may still be developing. This requires the whole team to be ready to play at any moment with a shifting line up.
“[For] most of the starters, this is their first year starting on varsity [so] we are going to need back up guys step up,” said sophomore Rami Nabhan.
Even with the steep expectations hanging over their heads the team still believes it is important to have a close knit program because off field chemistry will improve on field performances. Long practices assist in the process since there is a lot of interaction during drills that build confidence in the team as a whole.
“I’m very excited for the season just because we really [have] a family aspect [on the team]. I also like a lot and as a team like to win a lot [too],” said senior Patrick Burke.
Even with the strong bonds of the team it is still important to keep your eye on the ball. To be successful the whole team will need to come together to meet a common goal; winning the conference championships.
“I love the grind,” said Adham, “it’s fun to go out and play every day with your best
