Spartan tradition
Welcome to West Springfield, home of the Spartans, and open to all.
We are all blessed to be able to live in a community with such a diverse, yet inviting society of West Springfield citizens.
We would be bluffing if we told you that there was absolutely no tension or problems with culture, beliefs or ethnicity, but as a whole we are a very tight-knit group of Virginians. Especially during school, you will find it very easy to talk to just about any person or group in the school and expect a welcoming invitation into the conversation or activity.
If you were to take a walk down the hall of WS you are guaranteed to find very mixed groups of people with different ideologies, clothing styles, and hobbies. What you will also find is that those very same people all tend to get along with each other because of our Spartan unity.
After the snowstorm last year that left the school campus completely covered in snow and ice, members of the community pooled their efforts to help shovel. Even those who did not attend WS nor had any relatives there were out in the freezing cold to clear off the parking lots and sidewalks.
Also, the tell-tale sign of our great camaraderie as Springfield residents is our great sense of Spartan Spirit.
You are always bound to see parents, siblings, relatives, and lots of other WS faithfuls at sporting events, school functions, and class fundraisers. Our spirit also stretches farther than that, where you are almost guaranteed to see a person or people with various Spartan sport and activity apparel.
We are definitely proud to say that we are part of such a wonderful community and a great group of friends and acquaintances, because they give that great sense of an extended family that you can always rely on.
Especially since we are living in a very difficult time period, having the great community we have provides us with a feeling that wherever we go, we will always have our family back in WS.
