Spartans’ generosity helps provide happy holidays for all

Every year the National Honor Society helps to organize a holiday adoption program for less-fortunate families. This year, with the help of a Fairfax County social worker, we were able to match up a variety of groups with over 22 families who need support during these difficult economic times.

The generosity and compassion that the WS community has shown is truly inspirational. Families were “adopted” by individual teachers, academic departments and the administration. The student body also adopted families through various organizations including: Ethiopian & Eritrean Club, Forensics, History Honor Society, Key Club and the Thespian Honor Society. Additionally, a special recognition needs to be made for the Class of 2012, which not only adopted the largest family, but tripled the donation request. In total, WS donated over 300 gifts and gift cards totaling over $1,600.

It is an incredible sight looking at the volume of donations that this school has made to benefit people anonymously.  Fairfax County Public Schools has a goal of creating “good citizens,” which WS truly embodies. In this season of celebration, please accept our thanks for the celebration that you have spread.  Your donations will greatly enrich our community and for that we say our most sincere thanks.
