Attention, seniors: It’s BFF time down in Guidance suite

College apps bring increased visits to Student Services

The first semester of senior year is a final chance for students to prove themselves to the colleges of their choice, stressing seniors even further as the college process begins. With college admission deadlines looming, seniors and their designated counselors must work together to complete applications for brighter futures.

Counselors Jeff Stahl, Austin Hamill, Braden Peterson, Cathy DiToro, Tami Marcheski, Katy Sokolove, Colette Julian, and Vanessa Keller have reminded senior students via email and meeting during Spartan Time of their obligations before they can turn in final applications to their preferred colleges. These Spartan counselors dedicate the majority of the first semester getting to know seniors better for the recommendations they send off in their applications.

The counselors make themselves available during Spartan Times, lunches, any Advanced Academic Seminar class seniors are enrolled in, and after school. These helpful and convenient times are used for individual meetings where counselors and students are able to collaborate on recommendation letters, college resources, and graduation requirements. Resources including required forms for transcripts and senior packets are easily available and out in the open at the guidance office for convenience.

Not only are counselors informing their students, but they have helped parents better understand the process and necessities for completing applications. On September 24th, Senior Parent Night was organized in order to make sure parents, students and counselors were all on the same page. All seniors were given the information in a required Spartan Time meeting. Parents were given the same presentation that educated them about weighing post-secondary options, sending transcripts, obtaining recommendation letters, applying for financial aid, and making sure students meet graduation requirements.

As deadlines creep closer, seniors will feel far more comfortable after getting together with counselors to figure out where they stand in the college process and what more they need to do.

Every counselor here at WS is committed to their selected students goals. They reach above and beyond to help every single student achieve their college goals so that their students can get into the best school they possibly can.
