Words can carry a heavy impact with them: I love you, I’m sorry, I appreciate you, Victory Royale.
Never before has a game taken over a population so quickly. Fortnite is a Battle Royale style game (think Hunger Games) developed by Epic Games, that is now played by over 3 million people worldwide.
Even though it’s a great game, an amazing game, some people find it necessary to complain about how it takes their “significant others” time away from them. Well to all you philistines out there who enjoy hating on this game, listen up. It’s time to embrace the fact that a game of Fortnite will always take priority, always.
With that being said, there are plenty of reasons why you should learn to live with the idea that you are second behind a video game. Fortnite does not, however, ruin relationships; if anything it can strengthen them by teaching valuable relationship skills.
Reason One: Fortnite teaches teamwork and communication skills. How many times do you hear couples breaking up because “their communication was not strong enough?” Well, explaining to your teammate the exact location of another play while simultaneously erecting a fort to protect your team takes immense amounts concentration as well as strong communication.
Reason Two: Fortnite teaches selflessness. I have given up a prized Med Kit to my teammate countless times so that they could live to see another fight. This is not an easy practice to learn as it is a human instinct to protect yourself, and honestly, how many out there feel like your boyfriend/girlfriend could learn a little more selflessness?
Reason Three: Nothing is stopping you from playing with your boyfriend. Fornite offers a variety of multiplayer options including teams of two. Please tell me a better date idea than dropping onto an exotic island and taking a stroll through Pleasant Park, Lonely Lodge, or Shifty Shafts. Even better you can squad up with another couple and make it a double date.
If you take away only one thing from this article, please take away this: Fornite is bettering your relationship. Even though your boyfriend may not be responding to your texts, it’s because he’s “working” on his relationship skills, or trying way too hard to get the perfect Victory Royale to post on his snapchat story, or both.
