Andrew Garfield steals the scene

First there was Clooney. Then there was Pitt. Depp, Affleck, Damon; we all know these names. Every once in a while, an actor comes along who is a dreamboat, but this dreamy actor has to have the perfect looks to talent ratio. Our current favorite is Andrew Garfield.

Over last summer, we went to see a movie once a week. This tradition continued into the school year, when we first discovered the enigma that is A. Garf.  His stellar performance as Eduardo Saverin in “The Social Network” is what originally captured our attention. We expanded our research, watching his other films we could get our hands on. It didn’t take long for him to become a full blown obsession.

The British actor first popped onto the American screen in “Lions for Lambs.” He followed it up with a string of made-for-TV British films and eventually returned to the American radar with a supporting role in “The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.” The film didn’t break any records, but it was the last movie Heath Ledger was in and therefore attracted a lot of attention. For Garfield, the best was yet to come.

In 2010, he appeared in “Never Let Me Go,” a British film based on the novel of the same name. He costarred alongside Carey Mulligan and Keira Knightley. The film received critical acclaim, including an award for Best Breakthrough Performance for Garfield at the Hollywood Film Festival.

Later that year, “The Social Network” premiered, instantly becoming a box office smash.  Garfield was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role, and the film as a whole has received many honors and Best Picture nominations.

Not only is Andrew a great actor, he’s as adorable as Bambi. Right now, pictures are circulating on the internet juxtaposing Garfield with the cartoon woodland creature. And we have to admit, they have an uncanny similarity. These images highlight his youthful and happy disposition.

But, perhaps the most exciting aspect of our Andrew fandom is the promise of his upcoming rendition of Peter Parker, better known as Spider-Man. The “Spidey” reboot, scheduled to drop in 2012, will also be featuring Emma Stone. Not only is Spider-Man our favorite superhero (we gave out Spider-Man valentines for three years), but we expect Garfield to take the role to new heights.

We hope that this is just the beginning for Garfield, and Andrew, if you read this, you can find us in Room 218.
