Military dreams, no easy feat

Getting into the college of your choice is not an easy job. Getting into the military academy of your choice is an even more difficult task.

Competition to get into military schools in America has proven to be a great challenge for many people that choose to go down that path of life. The long process is said to be both mentally and emotionally draining.

The application process differs from school to school, but for the more prestigious colleges such as West Point and the Naval Academy, it can be rather strenuous. To be admitted into the United States Military Academy at West Point, you must have exceptional grades in rigorous courses. The academy encourages applicants to have success in subjects such as Trigonometry, Calculus, and Physics. Not only do applicants have to challenge themselves with their curriculum, but it is also a necessity that they are physically fit and mentally strong enough to have a successful experience at the academy. Participating in extracurricular activities including sports, clubs or being a leader of a club or program is recommended in order to help build character and leadership skills.

In both the Naval Academy and West Point, a crucial part of the admissions process is receiving a nomination from a U.S. Representative, Senator, or any political figure. Receiving a nomination from a political figure can be a hard task, but with determination and continuous success in your education, it something that is possible.

The admissions process for a military academy is a task that takes a lot of time, work, and dedication from an applicant. One might ask why it is such a long and demanding process to get into a military academy. Why isn’t it as simple as every other college in the U.S.?  The military academies of the United States are unique places where our countries military leaders and brave soldiers are taught and trained to help defend our country. It is important that the students admitted into these academies meet the qualities and characteristics of a person that can help defend the country.

People who are denied admission from a military academy should not give up hope. As long as an applicant is no older than the age of 22, then admission can still be granted. Even if the first time doesn’t work, there is plenty of time to enhance your weaknesses and apply again.

If going to a military academy is your dream, or you’re just a person that is interested in having a successful military career, with hard work and motivation to be the best, you could be one of the honored members of a US military academy—if you make it through the application process.
