Ho-ho-hold on… It’s Christmas movie time

Tis the season to binge-watch Christmas Movies! We polled a total of 100 students at WS on their favorite Christmas movie and here are the rankings!
1. Home Alone (1990)
This hilarious, but heart-warming film beats out all of the others as WS students’ favorite classic holiday movie. It takes 58% of the vote and I have to say that it is my favorite as well. The slapstick movie follows the story of Kevin McCallister, played by Macaulay Culkin, a little boy who is accidentally left at home by himself over the holidays. He fends for himself and finds creative solutions to deter a couple of burglars. If you have not seen this flick yet, start scrolling through your TV guide until you find this must-see!
2. Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)
Dr. Seuss’ classic children’s story, developed into an animated movie, and further transformed into a successful motion-picture, steals the place of second reigning in 25% of the vote. The grumpy green Grinch, played by Jim Carrey, attempts to stop Christmas by hauling away toys, decorations, gifts, and even entire Christmas trees from all of the Hoos in Whoville. I recommend the animated version in addition to the motion picture if you want to fully embrace the Christmas season!
3. Tied for third place are true Christmas Classics: “Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer” (1964) and “It’s a Wonderful Life” (1946)
Both got 8% of the vote, however, to my surprise, not too many students have seen “It’s a Wonderful Life” few remembered Rudolf as they claimed that they had last seen it practically a decade ago.
Although these movies are not featured on major TV networks during the season, they are definitely classics that everyone should see at least once.
“It’s a Wonderful Life” follows the life of George Bailey, a man that goes through tough economic struggles and has a turbulent, yet very romantic relationship with his childhood crush. Although this film can be at times dark and serious, it showcases the importance of family and discredits the priority of material goods and wealth.
“Rudolf the Red Nosed Reindeer” focuses on Rudolph, an outcast, and how he helps Santa in saving Christmas. Rudolf and his elf friend, also an outcast for his career aspiration of becoming a dentist, run away and encounter misfit toys and the notorious abominable snowman. They find their way back home and gain acceptance and appreciation for who they truly are.
Whether you have seen these movies hundreds of times, or if you have not gotten t, take the time this holiday season to curl up on the couch with hot cocoa in hand, and witness the spirit of Christmas wrapped up into a 120 minute spectacle.
