Mr. Bond is at it again.
The 24th installment of Ian Fleming’s famous novels-turned-movies hit theaters on November 6th, 2015. The new feature, named “Spectre,” journeys through one British secret agent’s mission to eliminate a sinister organization that is trying to take over the world. His name is Bond. James Bond.
British actor Daniel Craig portrays this cunning yet charming character throughout his heroism and struggles in “Spectre”. He played the role convincingly, really committing himself to being Bond.
In the movie, Bond gets a message from his past that leads him on a rogue mission to get an inside eye into the workings of the Spectre organization. This leads him to find Madeleine Swann (played by Léa Seydoux), the daughter of a former Spectre member. Taking Swann with him, Bond discovers not only more evil about Spectre, but uncovers messages that tie it in with his past as well.
Bond is secretly helped by Eve Moneypenny (played by Naomie Harris) and computer whiz Q (played by Ben Whishaw) along the way, while Christoph Waltz plays the infamous Franz Oberhauser, the villain and leader of Spectre. It was fun to watch Bond battle danger with the help of his friends, adding some comic relief to the otherwise tense film.
During Bond’s journey, the British secret intelligence agency in London, called MI6, is being led by M (played by Ralph Fiennes) and is being questioned by the new head of the Centre for National Security Max Denbigh (played by Andrew Scott) about rogue agents (like Bond), and it is an important challenge to MI6’s reputation.
The movie expertly tied all these events together, and was great at twisting the plot when you least expect it. Daniel Craig did a phenomenal job in the movie, and showed his previous Bond experience well.
Craig made his first Bond appearance in 2006 with “Casino Royale”, and has made three appearances since; “Quantum of Solace”, “Skyfall”, and now “Spectre”. However, there has been talk of him retiring the James Bond label, with Craig hinting at a focus on other options, not just Bond. But so many say that without his Bond career, Craig would be a lesser-known name in the movie industry, maybe even unsuccessful.
This is just speculation so far, but it does bring up a serious question: Who will be the next James Bond?
Overall, “Spectre” was an exciting, action-packed thrill ride, with lots of twists and turns, and many references to old movies. It helps to have prior knowledge of Bond movies to better understand this one. Now you have a reason to watch more Bond!
