Winter is coming to an end and spring break is finally on its way! There’s so much to do, from traveling and college deadlines to sleeping in until noon.
By the time break rolls around, students can be worn out from catching up on any work they missed due to excessive snow days.
These cancellations and delays typically occur around late January to mid-February, and can lead to a large pileup of Algebra worksheets and Chemistry labs.
“I plan on sleeping a lot,” said sophomore Megan Kraus. “But I’m trying to convince the family to drive down to Disney in Orlando.”
Though spring break can be a great time to have fun, relax, and catch up before the school year is over, it is also a great time to start applying for jobs.
This works to beat the college kids coming home in May. With college students out of the way, getting a job could just be a little easier.
“I’ll be working most of the break,” said senior Brianna Ahmad. “I’ll also be applying to like a million scholarships for college.”
For many students this is also the perfect time to finish applications and go on college visits. Visiting colleges can serve as a fun day trip or even a long weekend! Colleges tend to have their open houses and have extra tours scheduled for around this time.
“I’m going to stay with some of my friends who are already in college,” said senior Chandler Mobley. “I get to be with some of my best friends and be at the school I hope to attend this coming fall.”
Going on a road trip can be a great way to save money and have a little extra fun with friends and family. Junior Sasha Vaughan will be driving across the country with her father, brother and sister to visit UCLA over break.
“On the way, we’re seeing the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Zion National Park, and camping in some states,” said Vaughan. “We may also stop in Las Vegas.”
Break seems to be scheduled much sooner than it has been in years past. The temperatures and weather conditions aren’t as ideal for vacation as they would be if break was later. While some students are itching for another break, others want it to get warmer before break comes around.
“I like how this break is earlier than usual,” said Mobley. “It’s something closer to look forward to.”
Students and their families also use this opportunity to travel somewhere new or a favorite vacation spot, whether it is across the country, or even across the globe.
This can be an opportunity to try something new, which is exactly what senior Jenna Wehr wants to do. Wehr will be traveling to the Dominican Republic with her family this break and couldn’t be more excited.
“Besides going to the beach, as weird as it sounds, I’m most excited to maybe swim with pigs,” said Wehr. “Swimming with dolphins seems too ‘basic’.”
