What happens when the Wizards hit a wall? They call Wall. The six foot four, 195 pound basketball super star was drafted first overall by the Wizards this year.
Although a gifted athlete, school did not come as easy for John Wall. He attended Word of God Christian Academy for 5 years. In high school he averaged 21 points, 7 rebounds, and nine assists per game and was ranked the number one point guard in the country by rivals.com and scout.com.
Wall attended the University of Kentucky for one year before being drafted. While in college, he carried his team to many victories including a run to the Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament.
“He is a big impact on the Wizards, and very fast,” said sophomore April Robinson, a star on the Lady Spartans basketball team.
In the 2009-2010 season Wall played 37 games. He averaged 16.6 points per game. Wall received many awards and recognitions in 2010. Such as the 2010 SEC player of the year, 2010 Consensus First Team All-American, and the Most Outstanding Player at the 2010 Las Vegas Summer League.
“I think he is very impressive at slashing through the paint, and he can dish the ball like a champ,” said Ali Kazmi, a starter on the boys basketball team .
While generally known for his skills on the hardwood, he is also a well known dancer. His signature dance, The John Wall Dance, became a new phenomenon during his freshman year at Kentucky.
The dance consists of flexing and swiveling his arm while head bobbing. Unknown at the time to him, the dance would sweep across the nation.
“It’s funny,” said Zach Jarrett. “It’s kind of like the Stanky Leg or Jerk.”
What would The John Wall Dance be without a song to dance to? Have no fear; Troop 41 has already fixed the problem with their song, Do the John Wall.
“Do it for the City, we do it for the fans, to ball like Wall boy you gotta do the dance,” the song talks about Wall’s hometown of Raleigh, and instructions for doing the John Wall Dance.
Get ready to watch Wall in action. Preseason starts October 5, and regular season starts October 28.
