When students go to sporting events, they expect to see the excited crowds, pumped athletes, stressed coaches and, of course, the photographers.
Senior Emily Gorham is one of these Spartan photographers. Gorham first started taking pictures at sports events when her dad got her a telephoto lens for Christmas in 2010. Since then it has become her passion, and she goes to almost every home sporting event.
Gorham isn’t on either the Oracle or yearbook staffs, but she still goes to most of the games for fun. Afterwards, she posts the pictures she took on Facebook, uses them for an assignment in her photography class, or prints them out for her friends.
“My favorite sporting event to take pictures at is boys basketball, because that’s the event that I take my best pictures at,” said Gorham.
The hardest thing about taking photos at a game is getting used to all the people moving around, but practice makes it easier over time.
Gorham doesn’t think she will continue sports photography as a career, or even in college, but she will definitely keep it as a hobby.
“The best thing about taking sports pictures is printing them out and giving them to my friends,” said Gorham. “I love to see their smiling faces when I give them the print out of the photo.”
