The girls basketball team is on yet another conquest of the Patriot District.

The girls are going through their annual destruction of the Patriot District and are not looking back, typically winning in blowout fashion, the girls look primed to make another deep run into the playoffs.  Although they graduated their “Big-3” of Logan Battle, April Robinson, and Jordan Miller, the girls are a team of youth and young experience, only having two seniors on the roster. The team looks for leadership through them having been with the program four years each.

“Its good having some experience on the team, it helps us prepare,” said sophomore Alanna Backus

The girls also look to their younger more experienced players, suchs as junior Amy Berglund. Amy has been on the varsity team since her freshmen year and has been through deep playoff runs, all the way to the state final four. Her experience on past great teams is as invaluable as senior experience.

“Being around players like April and Logan have really taught me how to be a leader,” said Berglund.

With the leaders this team has they have been tearing through the district with a 16-3 overall record, overcoming injuries to key players and playing as a team has been key for this Spartans squad. But players aren’t the only leaders this team has. Coach Bill Gibson returns for yet another season at the helm and continues to have the girls playing at a high level.

“Having a coach with many years of experience is huge, not many teams can say that,” said Backus.

Gibson’s coaching staff has over30 years of coaching experience between them and one could argue they are better prepared for any situation that’s given to them. The coach runs an organized practice and has gameplans set for the girls that allow them to play to their fullest potential.

“Now that we have people coming back from injuries we’ll be ready for any team in the district,” said Berglund.

With such a rich tradition, who can blame them for thinking that?

“Time to take home the PDC,” said Backus.
