Students show their support at Homecoming game

We the Spartan faithful already know who’s who: those who wear the Orange and Blue!

Homecoming is something special for many of the students at WS.  With many activities to partake in during the week such as the funky spirit days, the football game on Friday night has always been a favorite to the students.

The WS Spartans took the field on Friday night as they battled the South County Stallions in a heated district rivalry.  With WS the first to score, confetti was thrown everywhere and chants were heard across the stadium. The student section was cheering and celebrating for their team hoping that the Homecoming game would be in their favor.

Starting in the second quarter, the Stallions began to come alive and really began to play well.  As halftime came, the Spartans were down fourteen points.  The student section knew that there was a chance that the team could come out on top.  However, the Stallions continued to play well even though the Spartans were playing their hardest.  The Stallions ended up beating the Spartans to win the game. The team seemed to stumble and lost the lead. The students continued to show faith in their team by cheering and chanting almost the entire game.  With the hype squad and the rest of the students there, the atmosphere was still there.

“The atmosphere was very enthusiastic and everyone was hyped for the game.  I had fun just being there with my friends,” said sophomore Tyler Moorhouse.

The atmosphere was awesome even though the game didn’t go the Spartans’ way. The team seemed to struggle in the second half, but the team still hasn’t lost hope.

“We just need to keep our spirits up.  We need to be disciplined and stop the tiny mistakes from happening that happened in the last game,” said JV and Varsity player Eddie Cronin.

The Spartans have plans to rebound and work hard through practice to make sure that these types of games won’t happen.  The players have moved on and are continuing to work hard to play better, because a lot of players have extreme confidence in their teammates.

Besides the game, the Homecoming festivities at the game were one of a kind.  From the food trucks in the parking lot that included Red Hot & Blue to a performance of the dance team, many students had a great time.

“I liked hanging out with my friends and just talking to them and watching football.  The dance team was enjoyable as always too,” said sophomore Dwayne Branch.

Halftime at the WS Homecoming Game is always enjoyable.  With the best dance team in the country, their performance has always been top notch.  Also, WS has a great Homecoming Court announcement as they introduced the nominees and presented the winner with a red rose.

Homecoming was a great time for everyone.  Students had fun with the atmosphere, and their friends with a great week topped with a Friday night football game.  The WS Spartan football team lost, but they continue to push the fact that they will be ready for West Potomac.
