Homecoming fun for everyone

Students reflect on their experiences at the annual dance

The Candy Land Homecoming dance gave students a sugary sweet experience they’ll never forget.

On Saturday night, October 5th, about 750 students dressed up in their best and attended the WS homecoming dance.  All of homecoming week was built up by spirit days, a rivalry football game, and a parade, and finished with a successful dance for students to let loose.

“I decided to go to the dance because after a stressful week of school, there is nothing better than having a good time with friends,” said junior Lauren Catington.

While most of the upperclassmen have been to a homecoming dance before, for freshman it was incomparable to anything they had ever experienced.

“There were a lot more people everywhere,” said freshman Clark Akers, “the decorations were better and it was way louder than my old school.”

Although freshmen didn’t have a previous homecoming to gauge the success of this year’s, upperclassman did.

“Overall, homecoming was more fun last year because a lot more people went,” said junior Gabby Milef, “This year it was also weirdly hot inside.”

The heat was due to the great number of people all dancing and crowded together on the gym floor.  Although the heat at the dance was causing many people discomfort, students didn’t let that bring them down. New at the dance was a photo booth and an array of fun costumes, including hats and wild boas to dress up in for the pictures.

“I liked the photo booth because we could be crazy with our friends and capture the memory,” said Akers.

Another highlight was the amped up decorations this year. The school was unrecognizable with the assortment of fake sweets on the walls and colored paths all over the floor.

“[The decorations] were really good because they related to the theme and reminded me of the board game,” said senior Samira Tadyon, “They were really creative.”

The decorations definitely contributed to the overall success of the dance. Everyone that attended had a good time and created memories that they’ll always remember.

“It was more fun than I expected,” said sophomore Numan Juman, “I’ll go again next year because everyone was there at once having fun and there were no worries.”
