Spartan Hall was turned into a donation center for the annual Inova blood drive hosted by Key Club on Tuesday, giving students an opportunity to help people in hospitals across Northern Virginia. This year, over 50 students donated blood to serve patients in the area.
Key Club Sponsor J.T. Alukonis believes it is important for young people to consider becoming donors.
“Most adults who donate blood started donating when they were in high school. When you learn the importance of it when you are young and that it isn’t really painful, it is easier to manage that when you are older,” said Alukonis.
In sophomore Anais Martinez’s case, donating blood feels like an obligation to people in need.
“I think that [donating blood] is something you should do,” said Martinez. “I think it’s a good thing to do if you are able and eligible to do it because you can help people.”
