Ladies take the field

Pay back is amazing when you’re a senior.

Homecoming 2010 was swept by the seniors, winning the float contest and beating the juniors in the Powder Puff game on Wednesday night.

Everyone looks forward to the Powder Puff game but had to wait another week, all in all it was all worth it.

“I loved it everyone had their part and the coaches got so into it,” said freshman administrator Valerie Winter.

The freshmen and sophomore game was a shocker. When the sophomores were up by almost 20 points you could still see the competitiveness in the eyes of the freshmen and the most important thing was that they had fun.

WS always has good participation when it comes to school spirit, for any sport. When the senior body painters walked in and yelled seniors, with the word eleven spelled out on their chests and chanted “scoreboard, scoreboard!” the entire game to the juniors, who became a little bit arrogant toward the middle of the game since the score was tied.

Three was the magic number for senior Paige Babel as she ran for three touchdowns, two in the first half and one in the second. Babel knew exactly what she had to do since her team was struggling on running the ball. Those soccer skills came in handy when Babel ran nearly the length of the field on each attempt to score.

The senior defense, led by Nora Osei, had to stay focused throughout the entire game.

“Honestly I thought it was cute when the juniors stepped on our turf thinking they had a chance to win,” said Osei, “but when we were tied 14-14, not going to lie they made me pretty nervous.”

After scoring, minus the minor distraction of the juniors jumping up and down trying to throw her off, senior Imani Clayton put the icing on the cake by completing three of her four field goals.

In the competitive juniors, Candance Plaska had a bomb in her leg that night completing nearly half of her attempted field goals, but running on a field instead of a court meant nearly nothing to juniors Logan Battle and April Robinson.

Playing both positions, Battle and Robinson switched back and forth between quarter back and wide receiver. Being able to throw the football almost 60 yards, Robinson had many good passes, but the receivers weren’t quite able to handle the deep yardage.

With her family in the stands yelling “SHORTY,” Robinson wanted a repeat of two years ago when they beat the sophomores, who are now seniors, as freshmen.

As the ballers showed what they were made of, juniors Bria Bass and Hannah Hagy combined for more than 100 rushing yards, the seniors under estimated this pair of roadrunners.

In the end, 22-14 was the score and the victory over the juniors was rewarded to the class of 2011, SENIORS!
