The boys Spartan lacrosse team is hopeful for a successful spring season. With a couple of scrimmages under their belt and two upcoming tournaments, these Spartans are ready to take on any challenge.

“I expect that we will have a great season if we keep composure after losses and retain the positive aspects of our game after we win,” said senior captain Colin McGavin.

To the student body and Spartan supporters, the optimism of the team is encouraging. They are doing their absolute best to prepare for multiple wins as best they can.

“We are preparing by trying to get ourselves as more of a team. Our practices are hard so we try to bond through it all. We also do activities outside of practice and games to help us gel together,” said senior captain John McAndrew.

Although team bonding is important for chemistry on and off the field, individual efforts are also necessary. As a captain, McAndrew sets an example for his teammates to follow outside of practices.

“I try to prepare [individually] by making myself physically and mentally able to compete at the necessary level to help our team,” said McAndrew.

With all the preparation that these Spartans have participated in, the upcoming tournaments are likely to be successful. Their hard work and dedication is bound to pay off.

“I think we will do well and by that time we will have definitely found our rhythm. We go up against some very competitive teams, especially South Lakes who we have a much heated history with,” said McAndrew.

The Bulldog Face Off Invitational Tournament, located at Westfield High School and our very own WS, is on March 15th and 16th, and the South Lakes Invitational Tournament is the first weekend of spring break at South Lakes High School and WS.

“We will do very well if everyone comes to play as a team and we understand what is required of each of us in our own individual roles on the field,” said McGavin.

While the regular season and tournament hopes are high, the district season is crucial. Players, coaches, and fans alike anticipate several victories.

“We expect nothing less than winning districts by working hard at practice every day,” said senior Jared Vallejos.

The Spartan lacrosse team, like any high school team, hopes to move on as far as they can in the Patriot District, Northern Region, and AAA Virginia State tournaments.

“We need to go into every game like it’s our last and never play down to a team’s level,” said McGavin.
