Powderpuff results say to respect your elders

Nobody is really sure why Powderpuff is called Powderpuff, but this year, the seniors literally brought the powder to Powderpuff.

The annual Powderpuff games are a chance for the girls in each class to engage in some friendly competition against each other via flag football. This year not only did the game provide an opportunity for the girls to show off their athletic sides and represent their class, but it was also an activity that allowed them to connect with each other.

“It was a great bonding experience for the girls in our class,” said senior Jill Schmauder.
Joining Powderpuff was an opportunity for the girls in each class to come together as a team. After the sophomores beat the freshmen, 16-6, the seniors and juniors rolled in ready to play.

Decked out in all black, the night started off a little shaky for the seniors when the juniors scored the first touchdown of the night. This was a minor setback, however, and did not discourage them at all.

“I wasn’t nervous, I was angry,” said senior Caroline Fountain.

They had no doubts that they would triumph, but they weren’t happy that the juniors scored the first touchdown. Senior Lauren Rader made up for this, though, by running an impressive 80 yards after an interception and scoring the first touchdown for the Seniors.

While the girls went back and forth on the field, the student section was bubbling with energy. Freshman Administrator Becky Brandt got the crowd hyped by leading the “I Believe” chant. Halfway through the game Senior Administrator Erin Lenart, and seniors Will Ballard, Scott Berger, and AJ Koo jumped on a golf cart and rode around the track, spewing baby powder and waving the Spartan flag. Towardsthe end of the night the student section took part in doing a roller coaster wave while throwing baby powder into the air and leaving behind a giant white cloud.
For a while, the game was close, with the both sides scoring multiple touchdowns.

Despite the couple of points they made, the juniors knew their fate.

“We had hopes that we would win, but we kind of doubted that we would win with such a small team,” said junior Hibah Hindiyeh.
Hindiyeh’s prediction was correct and the seniors ended up beating the juniors 38-14.

The boys who coached the team were ecstatic to say in the least.

“I want to thank all my players and the senior class administrators for playing well and helping out,” said senior Powder Puff coach Nikhil Subhankar.

The boys took their role as coaches very seriously, and played a major part in leading them to success.
Fountain and Schmauder both agreed that as a team, “We killed it.”
