With the winter season around the corner, fall playoffs are in full swing. The West Springfield Varsity Girls Volleyball team has pushed through victoriously on their path to states.
WS volleyball finished first in the patriot district with a record of 11 and 0 against their regional counterparts. They powered past West Potomac, Alexandria City, and Lake Braddock in the first three games of the playoffs, only giving up three sets. The volleyball team beat Alexandria City on Tuesday, November 12 for the regional championship, sweeping them in just three sets. The team’s next bout is against Langley high school, who was first place in the Liberty region.
The team’s preparations are significant for West Springfield’s dreams of winning the first volleyball state championship in school history. One player who finds preparation important is sophomore Anna Dierks.
“I think we have been practicing really hard recently,” said Dierks, “I think being prepared is going to help us do well in our game.”
Since the boy’s volleyball team fell to McLean in the Regional semi-finals, the girls are the Spartan’s last hope for a volleyball state championship in the 2024 season.
The girls play at home in the West Springfield gym tonight, Tuesday, November 19, at 6:30pm.
