Wrestling team comes together for a winning season

Spartan Wrestling did huge things this season with the addition of a new coach and one member placing third in the state.
This year the team grew as a whole, with the coaches creating more bonding activities, but still emphasizing on each player’s individual performance. Players learned to work together as a team but still focus on themselves.
“I am really impressed with the new coach; he brought us together as a team. He is very committed and put more focus on team activities, team dinners, and putting the responsibility on the team,” said senior John Giordano.
Ben Fiacco was brand new to the Spartan wrestling team and he has seemed to change the team for the better and the players have been taking notice. His emphasize on working as a team and supporting each other has made a difference on everyone involved.
”He is very punctual and I did a lot better than last year. I think this year I actually won a varsity match,” said senior Jun Ha Sim.
Fiacco puts emphasize on team participation and attendance of practices. Because of this players were more committed and attended more workouts. Fiacco’s leadership helped guide the team and they did better as a whole. Players advanced further than they expected with some reaching regionals and states.
“The team did great this year. The new coach is committed and has a strong work ethic. He works a lot on team bonding,” said freshman Tristian Lucas.
Lucas made regionals this year and was one win away from going to states. His teammate Anthony Bruno made it to states where he has been ranked third in the state.
“It feels pretty great. This year I took everything more serious and it was better having coached we worked with before,” said Bruno.
Bruno has been wrestling since he was about five years old and has put a lot of effort into getting where he is today. His teammates have taken notice of his accomplishments and believe he will do well his junior and senior seasons.
“As a team we did really well considering the experience. We have made big improvements and I’m so proud of Anthony,” said junior Ron King.
The wrestling team has been brought closer together with team work, support of each other, and a new coach. Next season people
