Homecoming victory makes waves

Although extremely crowded, the stands were the place to be throughout the game. Encouraging chants from both students and the cheerleading squad made for an uplifting and spirit-filled experience as the Spartan football team clinched a Homecoming victory. (Photo courtesy of Christina Nies)

Spartan atmospheres brightened after Friday’s Homecoming win against Robinson High School, and the celebratory event continued into Saturday’s “beach bash” dance.

Winning 27-21, students enjoyed the game and cheered the team on. However, this is not all that has increased Spartan spirit.

“Homecoming is unique every year through the creative minds behind it,” said senior and SGA officer Grace Corbett. “The dynamic point of view of our leadership classes leads us to brainstorm events that we think would increase student involvement, such as games at the tailgate, cute posters for photo opportunities, and more. Every poster, TikTok, and Homecoming promotion we do is made by and for the students uniquely!”

Music not only accompanied the occasion, but Spartans seized the moment of each song on the dance floor as well. Pictured above, students are lined up, grooving to “Char Cha Slide” by DJ Casper.

SGA’s launch of a unique coastal-themed homecoming spirit week and ceremony was also enjoyed by students.

“I think [the ‘beach bash’ theme] worked out for the better of the dance,” said junior and Homecoming Court member Peyton Morales, speaking over the pounding music that reverberated throughout the event.

Students were thrilled by the game as well, with Friday’s win as a luminous ending to a long week of anticipation. This year’s Homecoming celebration was just as bright for students as a day at the beach itself.
